QUIET DISCUSSION WITH : LANBASSE
Fishing is more than just a hobby. It gives us a chance to slow down, disconnect from our phones, and reconnect with nature and the people around us. It’s about the conversations, the journey, the local fishermen we meet, and the moments we can’t repeat. A strike is just a bonus — what matters more is the togetherness and the stories we bring home. Through fishing communities, we can also keep traditional knowledge and local wisdom alive, teach younger generations to respect nature, and bring this culture into a modern world through digital content and creativity. In a world that moves so fast, fishing reminds us to slow down, be present, and enjoy the simple things.
1. Can you tell us a little about Landbasse and how it all started?
Ikrom: Landbase started during COVID, when everything stopped and we spent most of our time at home. That’s when Izzi and I started hanging out more.
It actually started from my interest in keeping predator fish, especially Mangrove Jack. I bought one from a fisherman, and before that, we never really thought about fishing.
But because of that fish, we became curious about fishing and started trying it ourselves. From there, we slowly got more into fishing and eventually started Landbase
2. What does the name Landbase mean to you ?
Izzi : Honestly, it all started as something I did just for fun. As we kept fishing and exploring different places, we realized we didn’t really have a place to archive all those moments.
So we created Landbase as a space to keep and share those memories. The name “Landbase” also comes from the simple idea of fishing — standing on land while facing the river or lake.
3. What makes fishing in nature different from hanging out somewhere else ?
Landbasse : It feels completely different. When you go to a café or a bar with friends, you might hang out and talk, but people are usually still on their phones.
When you go fishing in nature, you’re more present. You hear the wind and the waves, see the sunrise and sunset, and notice things you normally don’t see.
We also don’t really use our phones when we’re fishing. We just talk, laugh, and enjoy the moment. The conversations feel more natural and honest.
Sometimes the journey is also part of the fun. You can get a flat tire, run out of gas, get lost, or travel 14 hours just to catch a few fish. But that’s okay. You still come home with stories and experiences.
You also meet local fishermen and hear their stories, which can be really inspiring.
For me, fishing is not just about catching fish. It’s about the experience, the people, and the memories we make along the way.
4. When did you feel that Landbase truly became a community ?
Landbasse : For Landbase, it feels meaningful when we can go fishing together with other communities and also be useful to other anglers.
When we can welcome people who are new to fishing and help them get into it, that’s when we feel like Landbase has a purpose and can actually be useful to others. That feeling is really nice, hahahahaha
5. How important is the role of the community in introducing fishing culture to the younger generation ?
Rizki a.k.a Kidon : Fishing communities are no longer just a place to share a hobby. They also serve as a bridge between traditional values and younger generations, especially Gen Z and Millennials

6. If someone joined a Landbasse trip for the first time, what would you want to show them the most ?
Landbasse : Togetherness. In Landbase, no one is selfish about getting a strike. If someone hasn’t had a bite yet, we’ll still tease them about it, haha. But at the same time, we’ll show them where the fish are, or even let them reel in the fish when we’re the ones who got the strike.
We want to show that fishing isn’t always about getting a strike. It’s about being together and enjoying the moment. Getting a strike is just a bonus. What really matters is creating moments that we know we can’t experience the same way again.
7. If you could invite anyone to join a fishing trip with Landbasse, who would you invite and why ?
Landbasse : We’d love to invite Kang Iyo from Puresaturday because he’s also a fisherman. His work has also been part of our lives since we were in elementary school until now, so it would honestly be an honor for us to go fishing with him, hahahahaha
8. Why do you think fishing is still relevant in today’s fast-paced world ?
Rizki aka Kidon : In a world that’s becoming more complex and fast-paced, fishing remains relevant because of its simplicity. It gives people a chance to slow down, refresh their minds, and reconnect with nature
